Last week, BNC's Associate Artistic Director, Dawn Fay, appeared on Colorado & Company's program.

Check out Dawn's interview where she shares with CoCo host, Denise Plante, about the power of love revealed through BNC's incredible world premiere that opened this weekend, Love in the Digital Age.

Coming Soon!

Last week I had the opportunity to sort of experience my first BNC dance performance. I got to see rehearsal for Love in the Digital Age! I was very excited to see the dancers perform because every now and then I can hear them rehearse to music from my office. Let me just say, the production is going to be awesome! There are so many different facets to the dancing - sadness, humor, intensity, and of course, love. The music and choreography match each other perfectly with neither overpowering the other. I'm excited to go see the production tomorrow, live on opening night, and see how the music, the dancing, and the costumes all come together!

Here are some photos from rehearsal and a short video to get you in the mood!

Girls Just Want to Have Fun!

In honor of Dance From the Heart, BNC's annual event to support and build awareness for Community Outreach Programs on January 27th, here are the lives that have been affected by BNC.

Getting ready for a small performance

Ballet Expressions is an adaptive dance class for students who have physical or developmental disabilities. I had the great pleasure of observing a Ballet Expressions class, taught by Heather Sutton, a registered movement therapist.  I am an intern at BNC and this class was one of the reasons I was interested in working for BNC because I am paralyzed from the waist down due to spinal cord injury and use a wheelchair. I would have jumped at the chance to be a part of a dance program had something like this been available when I was younger. For me, it was very moving and inspiring to see five girls, all with various levels of ability, expressing themselves, dancing together, and having fun. What's great about this program is that it is tailored to the abilities of the students and they learn the same things and get the same benefits as a student in a normal ballet class. I am delighted that BNC has implemented the Ballet Expressions program, because it lets kids be creative, build their self-esteem, and more importantly, have a blast!

The Ugly Duckling

In honor of Dance From the Heart, BNC's annual event to support and build awareness for Community Outreach Programs on January 27th, here are the lives that have been affected by BNC.

Have you ever felt like an ugly duckling? Did you wish there was someone to relate to?

Hans Christian Anderson's tale "The Ugly Duckling" is the perfect example. The main character, the ugly duckling is bullied and abused, until he transforms into a beautiful swan, much to his surprise and delight. I always liked this tale as a child because not only did it inspire me, but it also taught the lesson of inner beauty and talent.

BNC translates this tale into a choreographed dance for children in the anti-bullying program. Through this program BNC entertains and teaches kids strategies for dealing with bullies.

The program was featured in the Denver Post. Read the article.

Madeline Stands Up Tall is the next anti-bullying performance, and will be performed by BNC's student company. It is coming in the spring.

Dance From the Heart supports BNC's programs, like the anti-bullying initiative, and the event includes a short presentation that will feature a dance performance from our scholarship students and a complimentary continental breakfast. Come, meet new people, enjoy a performance, and discover more about BNC.

Science + Dance = Buggy Ballet

In honor of Dance From the Heart, BNC's annual event to support and build awareness for Community Outreach Programs on January 27th, here's how BNC's community programs affect lives in a positive way.

What do you remember from science class in elementary school? Do you remember anything specifically about insects? I know that I don't.

Here's a little quiz to test your knowledge: 1) What is a thorax? 2) Which mosquitoes bite - males or females? 3)What are the 3 stages of a grasshopper's life?

1) A thorax is the middle part of an insect's body which bears the legs and wings. 2) Only female mosquitoes bite. 3) The 3 stages of a grasshopper's life are egg, nymph, and adult.

Students perform for classmates

Students at Monaco Elementary School know the answers to these questions through the assistance of BNC. BNC partners with multiple Title I elementary school to help reinforce educational lessons, such as science. Students learned  the parts and life cycles of different insects during BNC's time at the school. These lessons culminated in a performance called Buggy Ballet.

Monaco Elementary and BNC were featured in Commerce City's Sentinel Express. Read the article.
