It’s summer time, so it’s time to start Boogie-ing.

 

What better way than to disco the night away at BNC’s 2nd annual Disco Dance Off?

 

 July 14 @ 5pm

 BNC Studios
3001 Industrial Lane #12
Broomfield, CO 80020
 

Participants (AKA dancers) earn points for each minute they dance, as well as extra points for any darn thing the judges decide to give extra points for!

Dancers can ask sponsors to pledge per point earned or a flat donation.

Lots of extra prizes (to be announced soon) will be given for Best Hair, Best Costume, Best Dance Moves, etc). There will also be a Grand Prize awarded for each age group at the end of the event to the dancer with the most points!

The minimum total pledge to participate is $10 for Adults and $20 for Kids under 18.

During his 5 years at BNC, Skyler has performed the part of Fritz and the Nutcracker [...]]]> When he was in fifth grade, Skyler caught the eye of BNC’s School Director Julia Wilkinson-Manley during a BNC community outreach program, Teaching Math Through Dance. Shortly after this program, Skyler started dancing at BNC as a scholarship student. During his 5 years at BNC, Skyler has performed the part of Fritz and the Nutcracker Prince in The Nutcracker. Skyler’s favorite part in The Nutcracker was the Prince because it “highlights his strong jumps and movements.” Skyler is also a member of the student company.  In class, Skyler is learning to lift and carry the female dancers. Skyler loves showcasing his skills and competing. In fact, this year he won at the annual Denver Ballet Guild Competition. And he will be performing at Gala on June 2nd, and it ”will be the best yet.” In the future, Skyler plans to go to college to study dance and become a professional dancer and instructor some day.

His sister Momo also dances at BNC. Nick is a member of our student company as well as a scholarship student. He has performed in his all-time favorite show, The Nutcracker, for 4 years. [...]]]> Nick has been dancing for five years, since he was eight years old. His sister Momo also dances at BNC. Nick is a member of our student company as well as a scholarship student. He has performed in his all-time favorite show, The Nutcracker, for 4 years. During one of the four years, Nick played the part of Fritz. In addition to performing in The Nutcracker, Nick will also be performing many pieces at Gala in June. Nick will be performing in a variety of styles, including ballet, jazz, modern, and contemporary. One of Nick’s favorite experiences so far at BNC was assisting in the Ballet Expressions adaptive dance class. This experience has influenced Nick’s plans to be “a physical therapist and a dance teacher.”

Besides dancing, Nick also loves the feel of the wind blowing through his hair when he rides his bike.

As one of BNC’s scholarship students, Momo is part of our student company performers and she has been dancing for 11 years, since she was four. At BNC, Momo loves being able to dance with all of her friends and to work with amazing teachers. She enjoys “performing everything.” She performed in The Nutcracker this past December and she liked being able to dance on stage with the professional company. This June, at Gala, Momo will be performing pieces in a variety of styles, including ballet, modern, jazz, and contemporary.

When Momo isn’t dancing she enjoys watching movies and she loves dogs.

Momo will be sharing the lead role of Madeline with her best friend, Kaileah and will also be dancing in The Garden, which will be part of the Madeline Stands Tall show. Momo’s goal is to become a professional dancer with a contemporary ballet company, similar to BNC’s company. “This opportunity to work with Ms. Dawn Fay (BNC’s Associate Artistic Dir and the choreographer of The Garden) has been an amazing experience that has been like a dream come true! Her choreography is always very new and unexpected. It challenges me to break old patterns and to move in ways that I never have before. It has helped me learn how to show different emotions through my body,” states Momo.

Are you curious about what BNC’s kid sister looks like?

The company dancers of BNC are at it again, presenting the third annual installment of Industrial Project. IP is a uniquely intriguing performance where BNC artists take full control of a contemporary ballet production. IP is an experience that is designed to give the dancers an opportunity to explore the world of choreography and to dare themselves to go where no dancer has gone before. BNC’s Studio 1 will be transformed into an intimate backdrop for kick@#$ creativity and collaboration. If you’re lucky, you might get hit with a drop of your favorite dancers sweat.

This year’s choreographers include Ben Deloney, Julia Meng, Damien Patterson, Meredith Strathmeyer, Sarah Tallman, and our brilliant Associate Artistic Director Dawn Fay.
