Intermediate Division

As students move into the Intermediate Division, emphasis is placed on strength, flexibility and rhythm as well as mastery of their basic skills, body placement and classical positions. Students are encouraged to study modern dance along with jazz which provide a contemporary perspective and knowledge as they grow into strong diverse dancers.

- Students at this level should be taking 3-4 ballet technique classes per week
- Jazz and/or Modern students must take at least 2 ballet technique classes per week
- Boys II must be preceded by ballet technique class
Ballet D

Placement by School Director
Students heighten their strength, control, speed and mental acuity through the introduction of more complex combinations, turns, jumps and balances. Students at this level begin preparing for future pointe work by taking a specialized Pre-Pointe class, which focuses on strength and kinesthetic awareness.

- Students at this level should be taking at least 4 ballet technique classes per week
- Pre-Pointe students must take at least 2 Pre-Pointe and 3 ballet technique classes per week
- All Pre-Pointe classes must be preceded by ballet technique class
- Jazz and/or Modern students must take at least 2 ballet technique classes per week
- Pilates is strongly recommended for this level
- Men’s I must be preceded by ballet technique class
Ballet E

With an emphasis on mastery of the intermediate syllabus, students take on complex combinations, multiple turns and big jumps while refining their movements and building stamina.

- Students at this level should be taking at least 4 ballet technique classes per week
- Beginning Pointe students must take at least 3 Beginning Pointe and 3 ballet technique classes per week
- All Beginning Pointe classes must be preceded by ballet technique class
- Jazz and/or Modern students must take at least 2 ballet technique classes per week
- Pilates is strongly recommended for this level
- Men’s I must be preceded by ballet technique class
- Ballet E students may be eligible for Student Company
